Angle rolls are a vital piece of machinery for the metal and structural fabrication shop. They can roll-bend various shapes of long profiles including pipe, tube, solids and angles. These rolled parts have a variety of uses from stair rails and ornamental architectural applications to tank stiffeners and other structural components.

How Do Angle Rollers Work?

Angle Rolls use a combination of power-driven hardened steel rolls to form elongated metal shapes into rounds, semi-round or variable radius components. The rolls are power driven either through a mechanical gear assembly or via a hydraulic drive system. The distance between the rolls is adjustable to allow for a variety of shapes and to force the material into the desired angle to be formed.

Metals Used in Angle Rollers

Angle rolling machines can form a variety of materials such as steel, titanium, aluminum, stainless steel and most any other malleable metals. These metals can be tube, pipe, flats, angles, solids, extrusions or just about any other profile you can imagine.

Different Roll Styles

Angle rolls can be equipped with a variety of tooling roll sets. Standard with every machine is a universal set of rolls that allow for a variety of shapes and profiles to be formed. Optionally BendmakUSA offers custom roll sets that include rolls made for specific application such as extrusions or materials that may easily be scratched or scored in the bending process.

Angle Roller Accessories

Although there can be a variety of accessories including roll sets and control options for an angle roll the most misunderstood roll accessories is the stretching & pulling devices. These devices are necessary for a limited application of uses but vital in keeping the material from bending out of tolerance.

Stretching Devices

The Bendmak stretching device supports the free end of the roll shafts (those closest to the operator). The angle roll, when used during extreme duty cycles can see the shafts flex apart as a normal reaction to the pressure applied. The stretching device available from BendmakUSA keeps these shafts from stretching under these larger load situations by tying in the shaft ends to each other via this rigid device.

Pulling Devices

When rolling symmetrical metal shapes the material itself counters the forces that may cause it to twist out of tolerance during the rolling process. When using the angle roll to form material that is not symmetrical such as angles there is an additional “Pulling Device” to keep the part from folding in on itself during the process. A pulling device is mounted the the guide rolls and “pulls” back these non symmetrical sections forcing them to maintain the desired shape under the extreme forces of the rolling operation.

Where to Buy Angle Roller Accessories

At BendmakUSA we can support all the required spare parts and accessories needed for the Bendmak angle rolling machine. The pulling and stretching devices can easily be added to existing machines but we also have available special roll sets such as Delrin Radius rolls for non marking applications in polished tubing such as that used on boat fishing towers. Contact your BendmakUSA representative for more information on the Bendmak Angle Rolls and the variety of available options and accessories.
